Adaptive Resilience with Lanie Johnson

Video Transcript:

Why is it that people hate change?

If you think about it, humans have had to adapt to survive all throughout our history.

Yet, it is human nature to resist change.

While we have adapted slowly through time, it seems that too often in our modern-day moments, we resist change when it’s thrust upon us quickly or without warning.

I think one of the reasons change is uncomfortable is because it’s driven by something that is not in our control.

When I think about Adaptive Resilience, I think about the ability to actively take back control … and to do it by capitalizing on those shifting circumstances…  Recognizing that there are opportunities embedded in the changes and disruptions.

Adaptive Resilience makes you stronger.

It’s about using that challenge to propel you forward.

Think about it this way…let’s say you’re in the middle of the street and a car is coming.

You’re going to get out of the way. Your brain is going to tell you, ‘I need to run that way.’

So in this example, we as individuals demonstrate we are hardwired to adapt and to be resilient.

We do it in our everyday. We course correct. But when it comes to business, sometimes we don’t want to change or get off course.

But that is when change and disruption can run you over.

Instead, let’s use change to push forward. Embrace it to make business better… and do what our earliest ancestors did…. adapt and use resilience to remain relevant and continue evolving.
